Nationwide Protests Erupt in Iran Amid Economic Crisis; Travel Deemed Extremely Dangerous

Iran is facing a rapidly deteriorating security situation as nationwide protests have erupted amid worsening economic conditions, significantly heightening risks for foreign travelers, according to an assessment by HQtest.

The unrest reportedly began with demonstrations by market merchants and shop owners protesting severe economic hardship, inflation, and declining living conditions. These initial protests quickly escalated as university students, civil activists, and ordinary citizens joined the movement, transforming localized demonstrations into widespread, nationwide unrest.

As protests spread across major cities and regional centers, Iranian authorities have responded with force. Multiple reports indicate that armed police and security forces have been deployed to suppress demonstrations, using live ammunition and other violent measures to disperse crowds. The use of lethal force has raised serious concerns among international observers and human rights organizations.

The rapidly evolving situation has resulted in heightened instability throughout the country. Transportation disruptions, road closures, internet shutdowns, and increased security checkpoints have been reported, further complicating movement within Iran. The volatile environment has created conditions in which foreigners may be at risk of being caught in clashes between protesters and security forces or subjected to arbitrary questioning and detention.

HQtest warns that the current unrest represents a severe threat to traveler safety. The unpredictable nature of mass protests, combined with aggressive crowd-control tactics by armed authorities, significantly increases the likelihood of injury, detention, or inability to exit the country safely.

In light of these developments, HQtest strongly advises against all travel to Iran at this time. Travelers are urged to postpone any plans to visit the country until the situation stabilizes and public order is restored. Individuals currently in Iran are advised to remain in secure locations, avoid public gatherings, closely monitor official advisories, and prepare contingency plans for departure if conditions worsen.

HQtest will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updated travel safety guidance as new information becomes available. Until further notice, Iran should be considered an extremely high-risk destination for tourism, business travel, and non-essential visits due to ongoing civil unrest and security crackdowns.
